Steev Hall has been strumming folk songs since he was given his first guitar by his uncle at age seven. His parents were early folk club members and most of the albums in the house were folk music. Steev used to play in pub sessions as a teenager and joined his first ceilidh band at age 17 playing the mandolin with the ‘Castle B Band’ from Shrewsbury.
Various bands followed until he and his drummer school friend formed a large rhythm and blues showband which toured the country for over three years with Steev as the frontman. After this foray into R&B he and the drummer then joined established Shropshire ceilidh band ‘This Way Up’ in 1990 playing for dances and concerts for over 25 years.
Steev plays Guitar (6 & 12 string, Classical and Tenor), Mandolin, Mandocello and Banjo. He is also involved with a local blues band playing the blues harp and keyboards. Steev joined Iromasters in early 2016 after an initial stand in opportunity at Whitby Folk Week in 2015.
